Responsibility Infrastructure Standard.

The Responsibility Infrastructure Standard (RIS) defines normative conditions governing Responsibility Infrastructure. It is distinct from the Responsibility Infrastructure Protocol and from the proposed public Responsibility Interoperability Standard and Protocol.

This page preserves a substantive public view of the Standard's scope, structure, representative requirements and issued standard identifiers. Each identified publication's status, scope, version and licence or permitted-use terms govern its use.

§ Scope

A broader architecture for provable responsibility.

RIS establishes normative conditions for how responsibility may be represented, evidenced, verified, recognised, resolved and relied upon across organisational or system boundaries.

The architecture is domain-neutral. Its public description is intended to remain useful across industries while keeping internal implementation choices separate from the requirements that must be shared for interoperability.

§ Problem and response

From an operational gap to testable requirements.

The Operational Responsibility Gap describes the inability to reconstruct who held responsibility for the next required action in a specific event. The Standard provides the normative treatment of that problem; the public interoperability layer is limited to what independent parties must share to preserve meaning at the boundary.

§ Normative requirements

Conformance remains a bounded claim.

Any implementation claiming conformance with an identified RI publication must state the applicable role, scope and version and satisfy the requirements that publication makes applicable.

Public availability, technical similarity or compatibility with the interoperability layer does not by itself establish broader RIS conformance, Recognition, Registry standing or authority for external reliance.

§ Protocol relationship

The RI Standard and RI Protocol remain distinct.

The Responsibility Infrastructure Standard defines the wider normative conditions. The Responsibility Infrastructure Protocol describes the protocol-level relationships through which those conditions are expressed and used. Neither is replaced by the public interoperability publications.

§ Public interoperability layer

Interoperate through a separately defined public boundary.

The proposed Responsibility Interoperability Standard defines the common semantics that independent parties need to preserve. The proposed Responsibility Interoperability Protocol defines the exchange behaviour needed to carry those semantics across organisational and system boundaries.

Supporting schemas, reference code, validators, fixtures and conformance tests may be released with that layer where they are necessary for independent interoperability. Internal implementation details that are not part of an applicable public specification remain outside an interoperability conformance claim.

Issued standards

Issued RI-STD publications remain available as part of the public institutional record. Their identifier, status and any document-specific licence govern their use.
